Deleting a transaction will affect your holdings quantity and cost basis calculations. Use this carefully.
Importing Transactions
For efficiency, you can import historical transactions from CSV files rather than manually entering them one by one.
See Import/Export Guide for detailed instructions on importing transactions from:
- Tangerine Bank exports
- Microsoft Money files
- Generic CSV formats
- Other brokerage exports
Split Transactions
For complex trades (selling some lots while buying others in the same transaction):
- Create a sell transaction first for the shares you're selling
- Create a separate buy transaction for the new purchase
- You can add notes to link them together, or use the split transaction view
Multi-Currency Transactions
If you have multiple accounts with different currencies:
- Select the account (which determines the currency)
- Enter the amount in that account's currency
- The conversion rate will be applied as needed for portfolio total calculations
Tips
- Record transactions as they happen for accurate tracking
- Include fees to get realistic cost basis calculations
- Use the notes field to describe corporate actions or special circumstances
- For historical data, use the import feature rather than manual entry
- Review your transaction history regularly to ensure accuracy
- Dividends should be recorded on the payment date, not the ex-dividend date
